Stanislaus County Academic Decathlon

The Academic Decathlon is a program in which Stanislaus County public and private high school students compete as individuals and as a team in a series of academic tests and demonstrations. The ten events include the following:
Mathematics
Language and Literature
Economics
Essay
Fine Arts
Speech (prepared and impromptu)
Music
Interview
Social Science or Science
Super Quiz (Science or Social Science)
What is an Academic Decathlon Team? For the Stanislaus County competition level, a team consists of nine students, three in each of the following categories:
Varsity 0.00-2.99 GPA
Scholastic 3.00-3.74 GPA
Honor 3.75-4.00 GPA
What do the students get out of the event? Students have an opportunity to show their academic skills and to represent their school in academic competition. The winning team will represent Stanislaus County at the California Academic Decathlon State Finals.
What awards can students win? Gold, silver and bronze medals are given in all events in the three GPA/academic categories. Ribbons are awarded for fourth and fifth place. Individual trophies/plaques are awarded to the Super Quiz winners & championship team.
Is the public invited? Only to the SUPER QUIZ, which is the climax of the contest, and the Awards Ceremony. This will take place on February 5, 2011, 2:30 PM at the gym. There is no admission charge.

Education Foundation of Stanislaus County
